No. 74 AUGUST, 1967
NORTH WEST NEWS
Greater London North West County
Scout Information Bulletin
COUNTY SECRETARY
Headquarters have announced the
change of name from ”The Boy Scouts Association” to ”The Scout Association
”.
At the Annual General Meeting of the
County Scout Council held on 28th June, 1967. it was formally resolved that
the new Rules, approved by the Committee of the Council, be adopted.
The new Rules give rise to changes in the method of appointment of the County Executive Committee, the
ex-officio members of which will now consist only of the County Chair- man, the
County Commissioner, the County Treasurer and the County Secretary. The County
Scout Council has appointed five lay members (with one vacancy still to be
filled) and six holders of Leader warrants. These will be augmented by the
County Commissioner exercising, in consultation with the County Chairman, his
powers of nomination under the new Rules. Full details of the new County
Executive Committee will be published in a later edition of the Bulletin but,
in the mean- time, we extend a warm welcome to two newly elected lay members,
viz., Mr. V. W. Pi. Markham, County Chairman of the B.-P. Scout Guild, and Mr.
H. Birch, one of our Honorary Commissioners.
The County Commissioner has appointed Rev. M. J. Eyden, until recently
D.C. for Harrow and Wealdstone, an
Honorary Commissioner.
The County Chairman has
announced his intention of attending the Conference of County Commissioners,
County Chairmen, County Secretaries and County Treasurers to be held in
September. He hopes that it will be possible to have a discussion with District
Chairmen as soon as possible thereafter.
The attention of Cub Scout Leaders is drawn to the requirement that no
Cub Scout under the age of 9-,’ may be taken on a Cub Camp or Holiday without the specific permission of the D.C.
(POR 341A(5) ). It would be helpful if D.C.s granting such permission would
make a note on the camping form, when approving the holding of the Pack holiday
or camp.

12th WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE, 1967
Our members of the Jamboree contingent will be leaving for Idaho at the
end of July.
Final applications for inclusion totalled 45, which meant that we were
able to supply a complete Jamboree Troop of 33 Scouts, consisting of four
patrols plus a Senior Patrol Leader, accompanied by four Scout Leaders. The
remaining 12, in combination with Surrey and Greater London Central, formed a
second Jamboree Troop, and are accompanied by one Scout Leader from this
County.
The County Commissioner decided that No. 6 Troop should consist of
Scouts from Groups in the Boroughs of Brent and Harrow (making up the exact 33
required), while those from our southerly Boroughs should combine with our
neighbours across the river.
No. 6 Jamboree Troop will be led by the County Commissioner personally,
assisted by Bernard Neill (A.D.C. Stanmore) and Brian Jones (G.S.L., 1st Harrow
Weald), the last-named having special responsibility for publicity liaison.
Brian Shephard (A.D.C. Scouts Ealing and Hanwell) will be our Assistant Scout
Leader in the No. 21 Jamboree Troop. Martin Turner, of 28th Willesden Group,
has been appointed Senior Patrol Leader of the No. 6 Jamboree Troop.
No. 6 Jamboree Troop will spend their period of home hospitality in San
Francisco, Cal., while No. 21 Troop will be in Richmond, Va. At the moment the
addresses are not known and
it is suggested that District Information Officers or District Editors
who would like to have first-hand news of their District representatives should
keep in touch with the Scouts concerned, to whom information on matters of
detail is being given direct. The actual Jamboree address will be (until 6th
August):
U.K. Troop No. 6 (or U.K. Troop No. 21), Sub-Camp Moisson (Sub-Camp
Vogelenzang), XII World Jamboree, Farragut State Park, Bayview, Idaho, 83803,
U.S.A.
On behalf of the County we wish them all happy flying to and from the
U.S.A., and a very joyous, smashing and thrilling time during their stay in the
States.
